Evolution of Cells

My cell phone has made enormous changes. When I first got one when I was 16 it was pretty basic. Allowed me to make phone calls and the reception was just okay. Eventually texting became a must have. Texting is quick and easy and you can do it almost anywhere. A lot of the older generations didn't understand texting at first and thought that it was much easier to make a phone call, however my parents are now starting to text. Now cell phones can send and receive emails, upload pictures, use google, and do almost anything a computer can do at a MUCH slower pace. However, it nice to be able to get emails anywhere especially since I am in the news industry. I can know if an interview has emailed me back right away instead of having to go to a computer to check it out. I will be able to get the coverage a lot faster which will hopefully help me get the news out faster. However, the negative with it is that anyone can reach me. Sometimes I like to be just left a lone and now with all the capabilities you can't hide. Another perk about the updated phones is that they are much more entertaining. I can download music with a push of a button and I can watch my favorite tv shows, which I have yet to try. Cell phones have made great strides giving us a lot of power and advantage in the palm of our hands. I think that eventually everyone will own one, especially over land lines.

GGRRRR

Well I am going to vent on here....
I have kept up with 95% of the discussions in this class, along with particpated directly in the classroom. Yet, my grades for the parts of the class seem to be very, very low even compared to the average. I am a little frustrated because I know I am doing as much work as everyone else...and still my grades are low. I am a little confused on to why this is and would like to know what I can improve. I need to pass this class, I deserve to pass this class. I am a senior and am planning on graduating with honors...and when I know I am doing what I should be doing...I expect that I get what I deserve.

spring break

Over spring break, I spent a lot of time looking at demo reels online using youtube and some other news websites. I also spent a lot using cameras and working on my resume reel for when I graduate. I am trying to learn more about technology by using flickr and how to upload my resume reels online so that I can be able to send out a link to anyone who is interested in seeing my tape. Therefore, I have to learn how to upload my data onto a computer and put it on a social networking website that allows video date. This will be much more useful in allowing me to send out my resume at a fast pace and maybe getting feedback sooner. I also spent a lot of time watching movies and I think that counts as information technology because I am using a blu-ray player...right? So I vegged out doing that....wooooo...I also looked up information to use for my paper, but unfortunately the links I saved...timed out so now 5 of the links that I wanted to use for my paper....were gone. Which I figured if you saved a hyper link it was there forever and could always be accessed. Now I have to go back and find more sources...arrg

Digital Divide

I think it is very hard for people to understand that digital divide is going to always be an issue. We are never going to be an equal opportunity country. We will not ever be able to have equal education in any region, therefore it will always be hard to help all children grow up technologically driven. I know a lot of people think it is so important to make sure all students our technology literate, but how about we focus first on students being able to sleep in a bed at night and having a warm meal on the table. I think it is almost disgusting that we are worrying about Egypt getting rid of their digital divide, well what about the Congo where children are being ripped from their homes at nights, and women are being raped? Why is that not a bigger focus? Instead of funding computers for people who don't know how to use them. Why aren't we funding bigger more disheartening social issues? I understand that technology will always be a part of many people's lives, but I think that there are a lot more serious issues that some families need to focus on. Not if they are going to be able to blog about their day on whether they were able to make rent or not...

Educated?

How I should be educated...

I feel that it necessary at a higher education insitituion such as college that it is important to teach me the exact job skills that I will need in the profession I plan on going into. Unforutnately, I feel at such a young age like 18,19, 20 you have no idea normally what you would like to do in the future. Therefore the younger ages need to be taught basic skills, not necessarily a well-rounded education like most Universities want to provide. Like having to take an Art History course or a Biology course. I feel as if we memorize that information rather than learn it. We need to be taught resume writing skills, interview skills, writing skills, technology skills, political issues that will affect us and our children, we need to understand taxes, the reason why we should vote, what a mortgage is. We need basic life skills that we don't really have a chance to learn. It is hard to learn ideas in the classroom when we are faced with outside pressures of obstacles that we haven't learned how to deal with or understand. Then once we decide a career path we might be interested in...then we are taught the skills for that exact thing. We have on the job training almost.

As a quick wrap up...
I can't believe the fact in 2049 there will be a computer that will only cost $1,000 and will have ability of the entire human species.

I also think it stinks that by the 3rd year of college, half of everything you learned your freshman year will not even matter. It is all old news. What a waste of time and money to put into your education. It is sad to think that we waste so much time learning new ideas and they gone. When will we ever be caught up?

What I am learning...

I have learned from recent discussions....well that there are way too many social networking concepts on the internet. I hadn't realized what twitter was and I also wasn't aware of what to use it for. I was also surprised by all the differences they are making with communication. Grand. Just grand. I also am learning not from discussions, but from the online quizzes. They are teaching more definitions and new terms that I didn't completely know. However, I am a little confused on what questions I can have more than one answer to and ones that only have a single answer. Therefore, I am scoring low on the quizzes. SOOOO....I am not exactly learning how to take the quizzes correctly. They need better directions. However, I am learning more about concepts in the class. I also have learned how to categorize my bookmarks in my favorites list. This is helping me get a lot more organized and I LOVE IT!!! I have all my favorite websites in order now and it is making my research and online visiting much easier! THANK YOU!!

Okay fine Milentoff...I will give it a try.

I find tha technology is especially helping me in a personal way and professioanl way at the same time. It is allowing me to job search at a much faster and effective way. I can look for jobs and see when new ones are posted. Also, since I am in News Broadcast, it is a great way for me to stream my resume tape online. That way producers are able to see my reel right away rather than waiting for me to send them a hard copy, which could take up to a week and by the time it got there the job may already be taken. It can get my face out there much faster via the internet which is quite handy! It is also nice on tvjobs.com how the job will be up and it will show you exactly what the job requirements are and the location of the job, salary, and other expectations. It is a lot nicer than having to drive around to news stations all over the country trying to audition. So far...that is how it will help me professioanlly. Yet, I don't know how blogging is helping me professionally...
